There are a few things to look out for when choosing cotton shirts for DTG printing. In particular, dark colored shirts.
- The lighter weight cotton shirts have more holes in them and the fibers are not as tight. Therefore, the pre-treatment will not stick to the shirts as well.
- The high quality cotton shirts such as the Beefy tee have many fibers that stick-up. The fibers can "peek" through when a color is printed onto the white ink. Therefore, it is
very important that these fibers are pushed down when pretreating the shirt. this can be accomplised with a wet sponge.
- I have had problems with inconsistant results from shirt made in different countries. A Gildan 2000 black from Hondurus may print perfect and then a Gildan 2000 black from Haiti will print aweful and not hold white ink. In this case, each time you receive a shipment of shirts you need to test them.
