I once asked someone at USSPIT why they suggest to use Windex for cleaning the t-jet. There reply was, "This is a chemical that most people have around the house or shop". Well Windex is great for cleaning windows it should not be used for cleaning electronic equipment. I have worked in the electronics industry for over 15 years and I have never seen any piece of quipment any circuit board, or any component cleaned with anything other than Alcohol or Acetone. Acetone is for heavy duty cleaning and not recommended here. But alcohol is used because it is a great solvent, evoparates quickly and has a low electrical conductivity. We are talking about Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol).
We use alcohol to clean the heads, the capping station, the encoder strip and every other part of the t-jet. It is best to by the 91% alcohol since it has less water and evaporates quicker and is a better solvent. It can be found in any pharmacy, department store and grocery store. Many places only carry the 70% variety, but the pharmacies usually have the 91% variant.
If you have a clogged head you can use the alcohol to unclog the head.
CAUTION:
Isopropyl Alcohol is flammable and should be used with care. Do not ingest it or get it in your eyes.
